Background: We are already seeing the drastic human impact of the Trump administration’s 45,000 refugee cap – the lowest level in U.S. history – and its multiple refugee bans, the most recent of which bans refugees from 11 countries for three months beginning on October 24th. These policy changes are already having major impacts on refugees seeking resettlement, refugee families seeking to reunite, and our capacity as a country to welcome refugees now and in the future.

As people who care about refugees, we must make sure that both the Administration and Congress hear loud and clear that communities across the country support refugee resettlement, are opposed to refugee bans, and are looking to both Congress and the White House to ensure that each and every one of the 45,000 refugees that the Administration promised to resettle in Fiscal Year 2018 is able to come to the United States, and not one less. A weekly update on refugee arrivals can be found at www.rcusa.org.
