Join 1951 Coffee on World Refugee Day
1951 Coffee invites you to partake in World Refugee Day on 6/20. We want to use this time to recognize what it means to be a refugee and the challenges bestowed in the resettlement process, which offers no option but to redefine "home". We welcome you to join us for an evening filled with art, activities and refreshments provided by our friends who have come through the refugee program and are open to sharing their cultures and perspectives. This evening is appropriate for all ages, so we welcome you to bring any and all friends and family.
Of the activities...
Prepare to immerse yourself in our "Refugee Resettlement Experience" where you receive an identity at random and must use the resources provided to navigate your way through social services, housing, education, employment, etc. to ultimately rebuild your life in a foreign place.
Explore the "Cultural Courtyard", which will include an Eritrean coffee making ceremony, a mehendi (henna) station, an assortment of authentic Indian chai courtesy of Tipu Chai, and Syrian treats provided by Old Damascus Fare.
Wander through "Our Journey", a photo/quote exhibit curated by our baristas that captures honest insights of refugee lives and resettlement in the US.
