No Place Like Home - Refugee Awareness Event
Hosted by Easton Area Congregations Together In Service
Meet Mahmood. He and his family fled Iraq when he was 13 years old. Because his older brother was a translator for the U.S. military, the family received death threats. And they weren't just threats; someone tried to kill his father -- a quiet, hardworking accountant of 27 years.
His family fled to Jordan for safety, but Mahmood and his siblings couldn't attend school. When he started school in the U.S., Mahmood did not know English, but volunteered at IRIS all summer long to learn it.
With IRIS's help, his brothers and sister also started school. The family now feels safe at home. His father found a job and his mother is relaunching the business she'd built over 20 years in Iraq -- but had to abandon -- as a dressmaker and designer with the help of sewing machines from IRIS.
Come hear his story and how you can get involved in helping Refugees in CT.
