See the Faces
Human 2 Human, a student organization at the University of Denver, is organizing a 4-part event series throughout the upcoming winter and spring seasons surrounding the theme of international immigration and the impacts of it on the greater Denver community. The goal of these events is to re-bridge the connections and understanding between refugees, migrants and domestic citizens, and reunite through a common humanity that seems to have been forgotten amongst recent travel bans, hateful policies, and anti-immigrant sentiments. The reality is that immigrants are just as important, just as valuable, just as American and human as the rest of us, and we want to bring back that consciousness in our DU and Denver community.
The first event, See the Faces, will take place on January 26th. This event will be food-fair style where various organizations and departments from on- and off-campus will bring food from cultures that they represent. Attendees will receive tickets with their $5 entry fees that they can exchange for various samples of food that organizations and individuals will be sharing with you from around the world. Event participants will be seated at tables with the main event starting at 4:45pm. It will be composed of a Q&A panel with refugees and migrants who will share their stories and experiences to create transparency and understanding of what it truly means to be a migrant.
If you are interested in volunteering to help run this event, Human 2 Human is looking for organizations or individuals willing to donate and serve food items that represent their cultures, and migrants who would like to speak at the event. Sign up with this Google form (https://goo.gl/forms/eH3JdwGn9aIM8lQA2) if you would like to participate! We look forward to seeing you on January 26th to share food from around the world and to get a glimpse of what life as a migrant truly means in the United States.
