World Refugee Day Exhibit with Michael Birawer
Minnesota artist, Michael Birawer, just returned from the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda, home to over 45,000 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Michael worked with artists living in the settlement and conducted workshops with them. Resources for creating art are extremely difficult to obtain so Michael, with the assistance of the nonprofit, Refugee Art, brought in some supplies and conducted workshops with the artists and children of the settlement.
It is a wonderful story of an amazing artist and person, Michael Birawer, who is pouring his heart and soul into raising awareness to the refugee situation in Uganda through his best gift - art.
Michael will be hosting a one-night exhibit at his gallery in Northeast Minneapolis on June 20th, World Refugee Day. He will be showing a collaborative painting, “Nakivale Life”, created by the refugee artists and Michael. Also, other original art from the artists living in the settlement will be on display.
In conjunction with the Minneapolis event, The Michael Birawer Gallery in Seattle and Nyjanda Artists at the Nakivale Settlement, will be hosting simultaneous events. Truly a global affair!
We hope you can join us, Thursday June 20th 5-8pm at the Michael Birawer Gallery, for this special night of celebration and art. Appetizers and refreshments will be served.
