Phoenix World Refugee Day

The United Nations designated June 20, 2001, as the first annual World Refugee Day. This date marks fifty years of responses to the 1951 UN Convention on the Status of Refugees. World Refugee Day commemorates the strength, courage, resilience and contributions of refugees throughout the world. It is a time where focus is placed on the incredible achievements of refugees who have become neighbors, friends, co-workers and countrymen. World Refugee Day shines a light on the causes of refugees’ forced migration, the millions who are still persecuted and displaced without safety and protection and the need for a world response to refugees’ plight.

The event is free and open to the public, however, guests are asked to make reservations before attending at www.worldrefugeedayphx.com or Facebook page (“World Refugee Day Phoenix 2018”). Interested volunteers for the event may also sign up at www.worldrefugeedayphx.com.
