Rise for Refuge Press Conference
PORTLAND, Ore. – On the heels of Trump barring virtually all refugees from seeking asylum at the U.S. southern border, reports have surfaced that administration officials are pressing to zero out refugee resettlement in 2020. In response, Unite Oregon is holding a roundtable meeting of immigrant & refugee community leaders, key allies, and elected officials, in order to discuss solutions to protect and support migrants in Oregon. As the federal government turns its back on those fleeing persecution, war, natural disasters, and other forms of hardship, Oregon must step up as a leader in welcoming these communities to our state.
After the meeting, leaders will hold a press conference outlining state-level solutions to protect refugees, while calling on Congress to overturn the Trump administration’s refugee resettlement cuts.
